Read This Summer with Mooresville Public Library

The Mooresville Public Library’s annual Summer Reading Program is back! During June, July, and August, both the Main Library and the West Branch will offer a plethora of activities for all ages and the chance to win exciting prizes.

At the Main Library (304 S. Main Street), children can experience special performances, including the N.C. Zoo and Readasaurus, as well as an all-ages foam party (July 26)! At the West Branch (614 Brawley School Rd.), children can participate in Drop-In Art Programs where they’ll make a different art project from one of the world’s continents to take home. They can also participate, at the West Branch, in regular story times and hear from special guest speakers, such as a park ranger from the Lake Norman State Park and the N.C. Zoo.

There are plenty of fun events for local teens! At the Main Library, they can create a t-shirt tote bag or dragon eyes as part of the Nailed It program; they can also experience the Falconry program, mushroom foraging, and a teens and adults escape room. The West Branch is bringing back its cooking program, Teen Kitchen Capers, in June and introducing Cooking the Books Teen Book Club. Teens can also participate in a Teen Lock-In on July 26 from 6-9 p.m.

Adults can participate in craft programs and true crime podcast discussions at the Main Library. If you’re a huge reader, you may want to participate in one of three book clubs at the West Branch – Book Lovers, Between the Covers, and Historical Non-Fiction Book Club. There will also be yoga.

For those who love to read, there are plenty of prizes you and your children/teens can win for picking up books and participating in events!

  • Children: Registered readers will receive a brag tag. A bead will be added weekly to their key chain to complete all weekly challenges. Readers who complete 800 minutes of reading will get to choose an age-appropriate book. For every 400 minutes past the initial 800, they will get an entry for the grand prize basket.
  • Teens will get a goodie bag when they register. Three of the goodie bags have golden tickets in them, allowing them to get one free book at Fred & June’s (Main Street). For every 250 pages read or program attendance, they will get tickets for grand prize baskets. Those include Dragons & Dungeons, Squishmallows, Polaroid Instant Print Camera set, and a writing basket.
  • Adults will receive tickets for grand prize baskets for reading and attending programs. Prizes include a Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Fire, Instax camera with case and film, Stanley cup, beach set with bag, and much more!
