In a residential area, the maximum allowable height is four feet in the front yard and six feet in the backyard. Fences can be placed on the property line; however, a survey may be required to determine the property line and if any utility easements are there. If access to a utility easement is restricted by a residential fence neither the town nor the utility company is responsible for repairing/replacing any portion that is damaged or removed to access the easement.
Commercial fences are permitted but could be subject to a zoning approval from the town and a building permit from Iredell County.
