1. Who controls the traffic lights in Mooresville?

Mooresville controls 12 of the Town’s traffic lights, and the majority of them are in Downtown. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) controls the remaining lights throughout the Town. Mooresville assists in maintaining the NDCOT lights by changing the bulbs but cannot control or make any adjustments to the timing. 

2. How do I find out if a road is maintained by NCDOT or the Town of Mooresville?

If a road is numbered as an N.C. or U.S. route, it is a major road that is maintained by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). The town maintains an interactive map, referred to as the Powell Map, that shows which roads are maintained by the town, which roads are maintained by the state, and which are privately maintained. 9. How do I get a speed hump in my neighborhood?

A request for speed humps must be reviewed and receive a favorable recommendation from the Police Chief, the Fire Chief, and the Public Works Manager. Installation of a speed hump requires the ultimate approval of the Mooresville Town Board of Commissioners. Once the speed hump location is approved, then the installation is typically completed by the Public Works Department within 90 days. More information can be found linked here.

10. How can I get a speed limit reduction in my neighborhood?

Town residents can contact the Public Works Department to determine if a reduction in the posted speed limit is appropriate. Speed limits on local and residential streets may only be reduced to 25 miles per hour. The Town must receive a petition from at least 75 percent of the property owners on the candidate blocks or receive a letter from the Homeowner’s Association. Ultimately, the reduction of a posted speed limit on a Town street requires the approval of Mooresville’s Town Board of Commissioners.

11. How do I report a pothole on a Town-maintained Street?

12. How long will West Wilson be closed?

This phase of construction should be complete by late Spring and West Wilson should be reopened at that time, and the closure will move to Lowrance. 

13. When will construction be complete on the West Wilson Avenue Improvement Project?

Construction is anticipated to wrap up at the end of 2022.

14. What do the pedestrian bridges by West Wilson Avenue entail?

There will be two 10-foot-wide pedestrian bridges for the multi-use path crossing of the creek in two locations near Lowrance Avenue. The first bridge is located near the golf course entrance and is 10-foot-wide and has a 40-foot span. The boardwalk that is currently visible will tie into the bridge. The second bridge is on the opposite side of Lowrance and is 10-foot wide and has a 30-foot span.
